HJ was enrolled onto a performing arts course and wanted to attend Drama school after college. HJ joined the Cultural Capital programme in the autumn as she was struggling to cope with all the work and her attendance started to drop.
I arranged to meet with her weekly for 1 to 1 meetings. HJ would always attend and would sometimes pop in if she needed extra support. HJ is a carer for her mother who has Huntington’s disease.
HJ had low confidence and self-esteem although she loved to perform on stage she felt there were a few obstacles holding her back.
I worked with her on these key issues helping her to overcome them.
I helped HJ develop a CV which she used to find herself a part time job.
There were times HJ would come to the office before her class started and talk to me about her friendship groups and would ask if I could escort her to her classroom which I would do.
HJ eventually built a strong group of friends and her attendance was back up to 90%.
HJ was offered an unconditional offer to University starting in September.
